FOOD SCHOOL
‘Food School’ is a small social group run for children with difficulties eating; from picky eaters to children with more specific or debilitating feeding difficulties.
This is based on the SOS Feeding Approach principles (Sequential Oral Sensory, Dr Kay Toomey). This ensures a fun, social environment to explore food in a safe way which isn’t scary – in fact it’s so fun you don’t even know you’re doing therapy!
We support children who require gastrostomy tube feeding or any other means of nutritional support, and introduce them in a gentle way to the world of food play! This intervention has a focus on fun with friends, with groups specifically facilitated to ensure that all children are comfortable and motivated.
From animal tea parties to painting pictures with custard, we use play-based approaches to explore a range of colours, textures, temperatures, and tastes. There is no better motivation than learning and playing with others, within a safe environment.
We typically run sessions for 8 week blocks, and evaluate progress and goals moving forwards. It is imperative that strategies moving forwards are transferred effectively into the home and school environment.
